George Shearing: The Amazing blind English pianist
George Shearing was born blind on 13 August 1919, but his life was fast and full of achievements. Born London, Shearing was the youngest of nine children and even though blind from birth, went on to create one of the most recognized sounds in jazz.
At the age of three, Shearing He learned to play piano. Then, Linden Lodge School for the Blind was his home away from home for four years. While in school, Shearing also learned to play the accordion. He even performed at a local pub for the equivalent of nearly $ 5 a week.
Shortly after, Shearing joined a band of blind musicians. In 1937, at the age of 18, George Shearing began recording music with Leonard Feather. After three years of recording with the pen, the band took Harry Parry in Shearing. At this time, Shearing, was honored as the winner of seven surveys Melody Maker.
Although he moved to the United States in 1947, became in a United States citizen in 1956. During those nine years, George Shearing began playing a new style of music that incorporated swing bop, and modern classic.
1949 marked the year they founded the first Shearing George Shearing Quintet. The quintet included Marjorie Hyams, Chuck Wayne, John Levy, and Denzil Best. The first single from the quintet occurred in September in the rain, and sold over 900,000 copies. In 1969, the quintet stopped recording with Capitol, however, solved the problem Sheaving starting Sheba, his own record label.
From 1970 to 1978, the quintet disassembled. During these eight years, Reunion and George Shearing were released. Shearing recorded and released these albums in collaboration with renowned bassist Andy Simpkins, drummer Rusty Jones, musician and Stephane Grappelli. Over the years, other collaborations included music with Montgomery Brothers, Marian McPartland, Brian P. Torff, Jim Hall, Hank Jones, Kenny Davern, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Ernestine Anderson, Dakota Staton, Carmen McRae and Nancy Wilson. Concord Records signed George Shearing in 1979. In Concord Records, won Grammy awards in 1982 and 1983.
Since the 1980s until the 1990s, George Shearing performed at numerous festivals, was on the radio, and made many recordings. Collaboration with Neil Swainson occurred in the decade 1990 until the early 21st century. The rare pleasure of You, an album with Shearing and John Pizzarelli Trio, was released in 2002. Received very good reviews.
Along the way, a now-popular piano technique was named after shearing. It's called Shearing Voicing. This technique uses a block chord melody at the top right hand while the left hand repeats the melody an octave lower and makes it stand out on the right hand. This is a hard style perfect especially when playing solo. In his quintet Shearing has vibration player playing the melody also, creating what some have described as a hint "Bright" effect.
Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road describes a lovely performance Shearing. In all his years of musical service, Shearing recorded and published over 100 albums and received numerous outstanding awards. Westminster College in Utah gave him an honorary doctorate in music in 1975. Shearing also earned Horatio Alger Award for Distinguished Americans in 1978. In 1993, the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement was given. Shearing received another honorary doctorate from Hamilton College of New York. He was also an honorary degree of Doctor of Music. He received the first American Music Award by the National Arts Club in New York in 1998. Recently, the life of the BBC Jazz Awards' Achievement Award was given to Shearing in 2003. George Shearing became Sir George Shearing in 2007 when he was knighted for his services in music.
Now, Sir George and his wife's journey from his apartment in New York Berkshires frequency. Shearing is semi-retired.

Was George Washington a Christian, or not? Conclusive evidence!
We can debate all day about whether or not the founding fathers as George Washington were evangelical Christians. Instead of judging their hearts, we are on safer ground by examining what really gave us.
However, let's go ahead and enjoy one of the favorite pastimes of evangelicals. That is, debating whether Washington was a Christian. The assumption of the "pro" side is that if we can prove that the founders were Christians, which show that the U.S. Constitution Christian. The "with" side replied that the Constitution document is not a Christian and Christians are best to admit.
Most Christians are firmly convinced that Washington was a true blue, born again, evangelical Christian. Others have their doubts.
Arguments against
Washington's Christianity
One of the main questions is why, that George Washington refused to take communion for most of his adult life? A serious Christian refusal is an act of self-excommunication.
Two hundred years from now wannabee historians utilize to religious quotes by Barack Obama to show he was a Christian. Christians today do the same with Washington, but references the Lord Jesus in his voluminous collection of public and private documents are surprisingly scarce?
More importantly, proponents the need to explain why George Washington held the rank of Grand Master in the Masonic lodge. Every Masonic lodge promotion requires taking an oath anti-Christian?
When it comes to Washington's religious / philosophical bent is too mythical character to depend on anything other than the documents primary source. These include things such as Washington public and private correspondence and the writings of those who knew him well, as their pastor.
Washington and Pietists
In the mid-20th century, Professor Paul Boller conservative conducted an exhaustive analysis of the written Washington public and private, along with statements by contemporaries. His book was entitled, George Washington and religion.
Washington pious biographers popularized an encyclopedia of stories about his religion based on hearsay and little evidence that could never hold in court. Very different was the story that emerged from the study of original documents Boller.
The stories include strict pietistic devotional life of Washington and bias by taking communion in its particular designation. In an account of George Washington drew his pistol and fired a subordinate who interrupted his devotions. Everyone reads much more on Washington's religious pronouncements that really existed.
Pastor Washington
People who were close to Washington knew better. Dr. James Abercrombie, his pastor at Christ Church in Philadelphia during his presidency was skeptical about Washington Christianity.
While his wife has always stepped forward to kneel at the communion Sunday, George Washington went out the door ago. When rebuked publicly pledged never to attend church in communion on Sunday.
Dr. Abercrombie let these words: "That Washington was a Christian, is evident by their regular attendance in our church, but, sir, I can not regard a man as a true Christian that uniformly disregards an ordinance so solemnly commanded by the Divine Author of our holy religion, and considered as a channel of divine grace. "
But, as noted above, the analysis of someone's personal faith is a somewhat risky affair. We are on safer ground with a careful examination of what the founders gave us. His fundamental error was a failure to distinguish between the biblical covenant model and focused on the social contract man.
The Washington religiosity
George Washington clearly a value to Christianity as a socially cohesive force, but saw it as the servant not the master of government. He spoke often of God's sovereignty, but their god was the Masonic Great Architect of the Universe.
Therefore, is strongly recommended in the Continental Army chaplains, but all his senior officers were Masons. He also served as a leader in his local church, but only attended once a month. Church attendance was part of his Masonic duty and a means of expressing caring.
Evangelicals are quick to point out that the founders were not "deist." Most likely they are Unitarian. While most were members of the church, men as Adams, Franklin, Jefferson, Madison and Washington, looked at Christ from a unitary perspective. That is, Jesus was not divine, and certainly not relevant to the issues of civilian government.
